In a resort-style fishing lodge in rural Georgia, the plot revolves around the visit of two guests, Englishman Charlie Baker and Staff Sergeant Froggy LeSueur. Naturally shy, Charlie begs Froggy, "Please. Try to understand. I can't talk to anyone now."
To help his friend, Froggy tells Betty Meeks, who owns the lodge, that Charlie is the native of an exotic country who does not understand a word of English. Betty, who has never traveled, is delighted to cater for a stranger who is "as foreign as the day is long."
At once, though, Charlie overhears a private and emotional conversation and decides he had better perpetuate the ruse.
Before long, Charlie finds himself privy to assorted secrets and scandals freely discussed in front of him by the other visitors....Hilarity ensues!
"The play is a laugh riot! During such dividing times, I feel it is important to remember our humanity and to laugh at our ignorance. By celebrating our stupidity, I hope to diminish its potential damage." said Play Director and WNCC Theatre Instructor Robert Thompson Jr. "In spite of our prejudice, we can learn to appreciate and love our neighbor as ourselves, even if he is a foreigner."
Cast members include Byron Allen (Charlie Baker), James Maag (Ellard Sims), and Jodell Schulte (Townspeople) of Scottsbluff; Lisa Betz-Marquez (Betty Meeks) and Doug Harris (Owen Musser) of Gering; Rebekah Carlson (Catherine) of Gurley; Tonya Daniels (Froggy) of Dalton; Noemi Marin (Townspeople) of Chappell; and Troy Jacobucci (David Marshal Lee) of Las Vegas, Nevada.
Show tickets are general seating and the box office opens one hour before each performance.
Doors open for seating 30 minutes prior to curtain in the WNCC Little Theatre.
