This year’s event will be held Saturday, May 13 at Summit Christian College in Gering. Activities will also include food booths, children’s games and a Christian Services Expo featuring local Christian services and ministries.
9th Annual Summit to Summit Run/Walk is May 13 GERING – Summit Christian College is gearing up for its 9th annual Summit to Summit Run/Walk to be held Saturday, May 13 in Gering. This challenging and beautiful 7.2-mile run/walk from the Summit campus in Gering to the summit of Scotts Bluff National Monument and back has become a favorite early spring community outing. This year the event will cap off a week of events planned for Tourism Week, May 7-13, in western Nebraska. In addition to the run/walk, Summit to Summit will feature food booths, kids’ bounce houses and all new this year, a Christian Services Expo in place of the traditional health fair. Organizers anticipate the Expo will be of great interest to the community. “We have invited local Christian service groups and ministries to set up their displays with us,” said SCC Publications Specialist Kay Grote. “There are so many wonderful Christian service groups and ministries in our area, such as Celebrate Recovery, Firefighters’ Ministry, and Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and we wanted to give them a place to come and let the community see what they have to offer. We’re really excited to provide this opportunity.” The Christian Services Expo will be open 7:30 to 11 a.m. during the run/walk event. The Summit to Summit Run/Walk will feature competitive professionally-timed 7.2-mile running and walking events beginning at 7:30 a.m. Non-timed casual walking and shuttle rides for those wanting to enjoy a morning stroll along the Monument’s foot trails will begin immediately after the start of the timed run/walk. The run/walk is open to all ages. Medals will be awarded to the overall male and female runners and the top three runners in each age/gender division. Last year’s overall timed run winner was Nick Kizzire of Alliance in a time of 44:54. Online registration is now open at www.summittosummit.org. Event fees are $25 for all timed runners and timed walkers; $20 for casual walkers age 16 and up; $10 for casual walkers age 10 to 15; and $5 for casual walkers 9 and under. All registrations include a T-shirt and swag bag. Pre-registration prior to May 5 guarantees a T-shirt and swag bag. Registrations will also be taken the morning of the event.
